Tomatillo Toma Verde Seeds – Mexican Salsa Verde Tomato

 120

Toma Verde is the classic Mexican tomatillo variety, prized for its tangy green fruit wrapped in a papery husk β€” the base of authentic salsa verde. Hardy, high-yielding, and easy to grow in Pakistani spring/summer climate. Pack contains approx. 30 seeds.

About Toma Verde Tomatillo
Toma Verde (Physalis philadelphica) is the most popular tomatillo variety worldwide, valued for its firm, bright green fruit and tangy-citrusy flavor. It’s the go-to ingredient for salsa verde, Mexican-style green sauces, and chutneys. Each fruit grows inside a papery husk that splits open as it matures β€” an easy visual cue for harvest time.

Growing Season in Pakistan
Best sown in spring (March–April) after the last frost risk passes, or early autumn in warmer regions. Needs full sun and a warm growing period of 75–90 days to fruit.

How to Sow

  • Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in seedling trays or pots
  • Keep soil moist until germination (7–14 days)
  • Transplant seedlings 60–90 cm apart once 4–5 true leaves appear
  • Important: plant at least 2 tomatillo plants together β€” they need cross-pollination to set fruit

Care Tips

  • Water regularly; avoid waterlogging
  • Provide a stake or cage as plants sprawl and get heavy with fruit
  • Use a balanced organic fertilizer at planting, switch to phosphorus-rich feed during fruiting
  • Mulch to retain moisture and control weeds

Harvesting
Ready in 75–90 days. Pick when the husk turns papery-tan and the fruit fills it out completely β€” husk splitting is a good ripeness sign.

Health Benefits
Tomatillos are low-calorie and rich in vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants β€” good for immunity and digestion.
